Enhancing Facial Harmony through Nasal Reshaping

Rhinoplasty is a facial plastic surgery procedure where the structures of the nose are changed to help patients who do not like the appearance of their nose or those who have breathing concerns. Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular procedures in plastic surgery, which is understandable since the nose is the most prominent feature on a person’s face.

Rhinoplasty allows the patient to have their nose refined and reshaped to help accentuate their other features and to balance their overall facial aesthetics.

Our doctors are world-renowned rhinoplasty surgeons who have helped refine and reshape the noses of thousands of delighted patients over the past ten years of practice. We feel that rhinoplasty surgery is one of the most rewarding plastic surgery procedures performed for patients of all ages.

Before and After Photos

What is a Rhinoplasty?

A rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure performed by an experienced licensed cosmetic plastic surgeon to enhance and improve the appearance and function of the nose. Improving the aesthetics of the nose as well as its function of breathing has drastic benefits to the patient ranging from improved self-confidence  to better exercise tolerance and improved quality of life.

Benefits

When performing a rhinoplasty, the surgeon will change the shape, size,  and proportions of the nose to enhance the patients’ overall facial aesthetics. Patients who undergo rhinoplasty surgery will see improved balance and harmony of their facial features, specifically the relationship of the eyes to the nose and the nose to the lips.

Often times rhinoplasty surgery is performed in combination with other procedures like chin augmentation or sub-mental liposuction in order to provide a nicely balanced profile and defined jawline.

One of our experienced rhinoplasty surgeon will examine the nasal passages during the consultation and make sure that any deviation or structure causing obstruction would be addressed during the surgery, allowing the patients to have improved breathing function.

Nose Surgery Types

Cosmetic Rhinoplasty

A cosmetic rhinoplasty is performed when the patient does not have any breathing issues and wants to focus solely on cosmetic changes to the nose.

Septorhinoplasty

A septorhinoplasty is a combined procedure addressing both function and aesthetics. The “septo” portion will address a deviated septum or other obstruction issues while the “rhinoplasty” portion will address the cosmetic changes the patient requests.

Revision Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty surgery is one of the most technically difficult procedures and even in the best of hands there can be times when revision surgery may be required. Revision rhinoplasty can be performed to address aesthetic changes as well as functional concerns.

Nasal Reconstruction

Some patients experience  trauma to the nose or are genetically born with disfigured nasal structures, tThis can result in a severely deviated or crooked nose. Reconstruction involves a more extensive surgery and sometimes requires the need for obtaining cartilage from the patient’s ear or rib cartilage.

Is Nose Surgery Right for Me?

An average of over 220,000 rhinoplasty or nose job procedures are performed a year, making rhinoplasty surgery one of the most popular and highly desired procedures performed in plastic surgery today.

Rhinoplasty surgery helps many patients improve their self esteem, thus providing the patients with a better quality of life.

Rhinoplasty surgery is a personal choice for patients who would like to make a change to the appearance of their nose by refining or reshaping it to balance their facial features. For many patients this can include reducing the dorsal hump, refining a bulbous tip, addressing the projection of the nose, shortening or rotating a droopy tip, or fixing functional concerns.   In the era of selfies and social media postings patients often complain about the appearance of their nose. Men and women of all ages who look in the mirror and feel unsatisfied with their nasal features are rhinoplasty candidates.

Consultation

With so many patients traveling to find expert surgeons we provide multiple types of complimentary consultations.

Virtual Consultation

For our out- of- town patients we start with a  virtual consultation. We request the patient to send us photographs showing multiple views of their nose and face. These include a profile view, a three quarter view, a frontal view and a view of the nostrils.

These are then reviewed by one of our doctors who can provide their expert opinion. Once this phase is completed we will continue to a video chat consultation to discuss the patient’s concerns with their nose and what their desired results are. After this step, if the patient decides to move forward with surgery, we provide all of the preoperative information to the patient including their required lab tests via email and set up a date for surgery.

We have the patients arrive the day before surgery so that a formal consultation aided with digital imaging can be performed. This consultation will also include an intra nasal examination, a discussion of health and a formal history and physical. The patient will then have their surgery scheduled for the following day.

In-office Consultation

For in-state and local patients we offer complimentary consultation appointments where our doctors will provide them with digital imaging of their proposed surgical results. The imaging will take into consideration their nasal anatomy and skin thickness so that the imaged photograph is a very realistic rendering of the patient’s proposed surgical results. Patients always enjoy having digital imaging performed as they are provided with a copy of their images to share with family and friends. An intra nasal examination, discussion of health,  and a formal history and physical is also performed at this time.

We find that it is very helpful when patients bring photographs of people they feel have the ‘perfect’ nose so that we understand the patient’s style and wishes.

Once the patient’s desired nose is agreed upon, then we will review with the patient the exact techniques he will use to attain your desired result. The technical details of the surgery, including the approach (whether open or closed), will be discussed at length to ensure a successful surgical outcome. Each rhinoplasty surgery is artistically designed by our doctors to help balance the patient’s profile and improve the beauty of their overall facial aesthetics.

For those patients who also have breathing issues we will address these at the time of surgery to ensure not only a beautiful- looking nose but also a fully- functioning nose. During your consultation appointment, we will review with you his extensive portfolio of before and after photographs, focusing on noses similar to your own.

FAQ

How to Prepare for Nose Surgery

In our practice we have two consultants that walk each patient through the phases of their scheduled surgery. A preoperative appointment is set where we review the preoperative instructions, consents, commonly- asked questions and ensure that the patient has been provided all of the information they need to be prepared and excited for their upcoming rhinoplasty surgery.

A medication sheet is filled out by the patient which is reviewed by our anesthesiologist to ensure that any medications a patient takes does not have any adverse side effects that could cause complications during the procedure. Patients will be asked to refrain from taking any aspirin or aspirin containing compounds, as well as most vitamins and herbs that cause thinning of the blood.

The staff will also discuss good food options for you for after surgery so that you will be well- prepared and can go to the grocery store and stock up prior to your procedure. We also provide each patient with a postoperative goody bag that contains many items you will need to help with your healing and comfort.

If the patient is traveling from out of town then we are always happy to set up arrangements for aftercare.   We have multiple aftercare facilities located nearby if they are traveling alone or hotel accommodations of varying price ranges for patients who are traveling  with a caregiver.

Rhinoplasty: What to Expect

The day of surgery, you will be brought in for a preoperative discussion with one of our doctors to discuss any last- minute questions or concerns you may have. You will then be taken back into our fully accredited private operating facility to meet your anesthesiologist,   recovery room nurse, and operating room technician.

Once you meet our team you will be very comfortable as they provide the utmost care and take every consideration possible to ensure that your procedure is a day you will remember fondly.

Once your procedure is finished, you will be awakened from a nice sleep and taken into the recovery room where you will rest and relax until you are ready to go home. The nurse will review your post- operative instructions with your caregiver and you will be discharged to return home to rest.

Recovery

Rhinoplasty patients are always seen the day after their surgery. They are then seen on day three or four for follow -up depending on the patient and then again on day seven when the nasal splint is removed and the patient has their big reveal. Reveal day is always a favorite of our doctors and our staff. The joy of seeing a patient look at their new nose for the first time is an event shared by the entire office.

Many patients will resume some of their normal activities in the days following surgery and others will spend a week at home doing the things they are longing to do like reading, watching movies and connecting with loved ones… or maybe just playing video games.

Many of our staff members have undergone rhinoplasty surgery themselves so you will find comfort in them leading you through this process firsthand.

While most patients are very happy with the immediate changes of their rhinoplasty,  it does take time to see the final results. Approximately seventy percent of post rhinoplasty swelling takes about three to four months to resolve. Then over the next seven to ten months you will see the last part of the swelling slowly dissipate. The tip swelling takes the longest to completely resolve and can take up to a full year. Our staff will walk you through each part of the recovery phase to provide you peace of mind during this process.

Our boutique plastic surgery center allows one-on-one communication with the staff at all times. Our doctors provide their personal cell phone numbers to all surgical patients to ensure that they have a smooth transition through their recovery.
